A Night of Two Garys with Gary Pisoni and Gary Franscioni (Tasting #17)

Sounds interesting. I only have read about both gentlemen but have met enough eccentric wine people to imagine what they are like. Their wine selections for the tasting appear good for a serious tasting.

Kick off the month of August in style with a pair of premium Pinot Noir producers. Join us on Wednesday, August 5th, from 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Gary Pisoni and Gary Franscioni, of Pisoni, Lucia, ROAR, and Garys’ Vineyard to our Wine Bar. These two long time friends partnered on the Garys’ Vineyard in 1997 after being involved with grape growing in the Santa Lucia Highlands for many years. Gary Franscioni’s family has farmed in this area for over 100 years. He is the owner of the famed Rosella’s Vineyard, founded in 1996 and named for his wife. He is featuring three wines from this vineyard this evening.

Gary Pisoni had grown grapes on his famous Pisoni Estate vineyard a few miles away for over a decade prior to partnering with his good friend and pouring his abundant energy and passion into that new project. He introduced his much lauded Pisoni Wines in 1998 and premiered his other label, Lucia, in 2000. Between these two wild and crazy guys, there is enough wisdom, experience and energy for several vineyard properties, but the prefer to focus on the cherished pieces of Santa Lucia Highlands they have already staked out. These two growers and winemakers have helped bring notoriety and recognition to the Monterey Appellation in general, and to the Santa Lucia Highlands specifically. Their vineyards (Garys’, Rosella’s, and Pisoni), their wineries (ROAR, Pisoni, and Lucia), and their personalities and families are all intertwined.

This should prove to be a rollicking evening of outrageously good wines. Having Gary Pisoni and Gary Franscioni at Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant to guide us through the tasting will make it even more fun and exciting. All of this for only $28. What a bargain!

The featured wines are served as two ounce glasses. If you find a favorite, they are also offered as full glasses. The wines will be available for retail sales as well while supplies last…
