A Night of Two Hemispheres (Tasting #16)

************************************************A Flying Winemaker is coming to a store near you. I think the whole concept of making wine on two hemispheres is fascinating but I have never met anyone who actually thought it was interesting. It is hard to visualize the reversing of the seasons? Australian wines always confused me and I am glad Penfolds is mentioned since I have been to several of the winery’s tastings but have ordered more New Zealand than Aussie for restaurant lists. I have found Australians to be far more enthusiastic about the wines from down under than any other region except some French people I met. I am sure it will be a fun event.

Enjoy a topsy turvy night of wines from two hemispheres with Daryl Groom. Join us on Wednesday, July 29th, from 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Daryl Groom, owner and winemaker of Groom Wines, DXG, and Foggy Bridge to our Wine Bar. You will have to practice swirling your wine glass counter clockwise when Daryl prresents his wines from down under. One must respect the coriolis effect. Daryl is above all a fun guy to have around, but more importantly, he is a heck of a winemaker. He makes wine on two continents in different hemispheres. He is essentially an Australian winemaker, born and bred down under, but has made many wines for years in California as well. He was the winemaker for the prestigious Penfolds line of wines for years, including the legendary Grange Hermitage. He is now also making wines in Washington State, so he gets around quite a lot.

On this special evening, Daryl will be presenting a line up of his Groom wines from Australia, a lovely Cabernet from his DXG project, and a Pinot Noir from the legendary Bien Nacido Vineyard from his Foggy Bridge label. It should prove to be a pretty tasty evening. Having Daryl Groom at Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant to guide us through the evening will make it even more entertaining and enlivening. All of this for only $20. What a bargain!

The featured wines are served as two ounce glasses. If you find a favorite, they are also offered as full glasses. The wines will be available for retail sales as well while supplies last…

The cost of the flight will be $20 and will include the following wines:
